"Hang Up" by John "Jack" Hammack (NYC/San Fran/Portland, 1925-1990), oil/board, signed, titled and dated 1968, unframed - 7 1/4" x 9 1/2"

 

Hammack was a prolific painter based in the Pacific Northwest,  and was taught in the 1950s by renown artist Louis Bunce. Hammack spent time in NYC with artists such as Jackson Pollack, Robert Motherwell and Franz Kline. Hammack showed in NYC, San Francisco and Seattle before eventually settling in the Portland area. He showed at many galleries in the 1940s-1960s. After his passing, his family discovered a large cache of his work under the floorboards of his artist studio.  This painting comes from that cache.
