Ramey was a painter, architect, arts and crafts maker, stage theater promoter, arts advocate, and university professor born in 1898 in Coweta County, Georgia. As an architectural draftsman at the Georgia School of Technology, Ramey worked for the firm of Edwards and Sayward in Atlanta. Largely self-taught, Ramey achieved recognition as an artist and exhibited with the Association of Georgia Artists, Southern States Art League, Museum of Modern Art and at the 1939 New York World's Fair.
