Kusaka was born in Tsuyama, Okayama prefecture. Under the tutelage of Nagare Koji, he mastered the traditional woodblock printmaking technique. During the 1960s, Kusaka gained international acclaim by participating in the prestigious Print Biennials in Tokyo, Lubjlana, Sao Paulo, Florence, and Xylon, earning notable awards. Kusaka's art prints feature abstract or semi-abstract forms characterized by vibrant colors, strong hues, and an intensive use of perspective and gradation. He often incorporates recurring elements such as egg shapes and cloud-like formations. The British Museum identifies Kusaka's style and technique as emblematic of the post-war generation of Japanese woodblock artists, akin to contemporaries like Kurosaki Akira, Amano Kazumi, and Amano Kunihiro. Kusaka's works can be found in the collections of MoMA, National Museum of Modern Art, Tokyo, Tokyo Metropolitan Museum, Library of Congress in D.C., Achenbach Foundation, British Museum, Colorado State Museum of Modern Art, and the Kanagawa Prefectural Museum, Japan
