Nicholas Takis was born in New York City in 1903. He was a prolific painter and sculptor well known for his abstract sculptures. He studied at The Art Students League; in addition, he took classes at New York School of Fine & Applied Art and New York Evening School of Industrial Art. He was a member of Salons of America and Audubon Artists. His work can be found in the collections of the National Gallery of Art, the Museum of University of Colorado, Lincoln Memorial Museum, Indiana State Teachers College, the Research Gallery, and the Brooklyn Public Library.
